Design Philosophy & Process
Our goal is to create thoughtfully designed, enduring buildings and spaces that contribute to a healthy and inspiring environment for our clients and the surrounding community.
Our design process begins with a focus on quality over quantity. We produce an appropriately sized, well-tailored design for each project. We make careful use of space and pay attention to the details, maximizing the usefulness and comfort of the building, while minimizing the resources used to create it.
During the design process, we work closely with our clients letting their unique ideas and requirements guide us along the path to a correspondingly unique design solution. Once fully developed, each design is thoroughly documented in a set of construction drawings. Whenever possible, we stay involved with our projects through the construction process in an effort to ensure that the work is completed as planned.
Jonathan Chambers has more than 16 years experience in the practice of architecture. He has directed or been closely involved with the design and construction of a broad range of projects, including commercial buildings, institutional buildings, historic restorations, adaptive re-use projects, and numerous single-family residences.
Jonathan received his Master of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech (1998) and his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont (1991). During his studies, Jonathan broadened his design background by spending a semester at Virginia Tech's Center for European Studies in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland and by studying ceramics, woodworking & silk-screening.
After working with another prominent Rhode Island architectural firm for a number of years, he founded Jonathan Chambers Architects in 2001.
In addition to his work as an architect, Jonathan continues to design and create functional ceramic ware and ceramic jewelry. When available, his work is sold through his studio and local retailers.
