Charlestown Residence

JCA designed this summer residence, barn and covered walkway in 2016, the sixth project completed for one of our most valued and longstanding clients.  The residence consists of master suite and guest suite joined by a open plan living area.  The matching barn serves as a garage, winter home for the family's boat, and a small wood shop.  The covered walkway was designed as an ethereal tether between the new residence and the existing shingle style home to more clearly define the courtyard and to satisfy some rigid zoning requirements.

 

The project mingles modern simplicity, New England vernacular forms, and unadulterated materials (natural red cedar, copper, stone, steel, glass, unstained white oak and polished concrete) to create a timeless aesthetic.

 

The house features custom rift sawn white oak cabinetry in every room, designed by JCA and built by Martin Woodworks.  The courtyard hardscape, pool and plantings were designed by our friend and colleague Andrew Grossman of Andrew Grossman Landscape Design.
