East Side Kitchen

The renovation and reconfiguration of the kitchen in this colonial revival home on the East Side of Providence truly exemplifies JCA’s design philosophy.  The owners were not optimistic that they could have the kitchen they desired without an addition.

JCA created a design that reorganized the space into an efficient, wide galley kitchen with an inviting dining nook in one corner.  Circulation to adjacent rooms and the rear yard were improved for easier entertaining and improved natural lighting.  Custom cabinetry by Jutras Woodworking was tailored to fit the room, maximizing storage space.  A high quality result was achieved without the added expense and consumption of resources needed for an addition.

This project was featured in the premiere issue of Inspired House magazine and subsequently earned a Gold Medal in Rhode Island Monthly's Design Awards.  We greatly appreciated this recognition but even more satisfying for us was the owner's feedback - that the inviting qualities of this new space draws their entire family together each evening as they prepare meals, dine, complete homework, and clean up after dinner.
