Watch Hill Renovation

JCA designed the renovation of the poolside guest house on this family estate in Watch Hill, RI. Originally, the upper level of this building served as an art studio and recreation room, while the lower level served as storage space and a darkroom. When additional family members took up full-time residence on the property, JCA was asked to design a thoughful renovation - squeezing two bedrooms, two baths, a home office, and an open plan living area into less than 1200 square feet.

JCA located the bedrooms, one bathroom and home office on the lower level (with views and direct access to the pool), leaving the upper level free for the open plan living area (with views to nearby Little Narragansett Bay). JCA added a cantilevered deck and causeway, supported on steel beams and brackets, to provide the outdoor living space the family desired.
